People often ask me why I work as a consultant, trainer and auditor. I do it because I think it's the best job in the world – there is no greater pleasure than conveying knowledge to other people, especially if they can truly benefit from it. Information security and business continuity are very interesting areas, linking ICT technology (the technology most responsible for modern society) with the organization and people, who create various risks using that same technology.
As a consultant, my personal approach is to reconcile the two seemingly opposing ends of the spectrum: figuring out the most secure ways of using information and information technology, while at same time increasing the company's profitability and bringing it into conformity with the legislation. Naturally, each client is different - whereas large organizations often need more complex and more detailed solutions, the challenge with small clients is to create a well-rounded system without making it too complicated.
On the other hand, working as ISO 27001 Lead Auditor for one of the leading certification bodies (SGS) I have the opportunity to familiarize myself with the criteria defining what is acceptable for certification and what is not. Moreover, certification audits are a great opportunity for me to learn - I am constantly exposed to new ways of thinking and to new solutions, making every new audit a new experience.
Finally, teaching courses is what truly inspires me. The interaction with participants, either in a traditional or e-learning setting, is the nicest part of the job - helping them to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in real situations is at the same time a demanding as well as a rewarding job. Most of all, I like to prepare courses attended by people from different parts of the world, since this gives me an opportunity to hear opinions on information security and business continuity applied to completely different environments.
These pages represent a brief overview of what I do. I hope you find the information useful and I thank you for taking an interest in my business.
